Slow & Right
This Training Tip is brought to you by the power of “Slow & Right”!
Taking the time it takes, not rushing things and allowing the horse to be in charge of the timelines is what I would like for you to take from this Training Tip to the barn with you.
People can make horses do a lot of things but is it really the horse’s idea? Does the horse really accept and understand what is being asked of him or is he just tolerating it?
Some horses will let you get away with it, others will reach a point where the straw breaks the proverbial camel’s back and things go wrong; sooner or later.
So, just as we can’t force things to happen with the current COVID-19 situation, let’s surrender to building trust & confidence in our horse by doing things slow & right, not fast & wrong. Believe me when I admit how hard it is for me to sloooooow doooooown. I get it, it’s not easy. If it was easy, everybody could do it! Be brave and be the odd one out that takes the time it takes so that your horse can act like a partner and grow his confidence!
Next time you are with your horse (even if you are filming your session for a long-distance coaching video that you will send to me), read your horse: is he breathing? Is he blinking? Is he thinking?
Be there in the moment with & for him and do things with & for him!
