On top of the world!

The Matterhorn towers over the cute little village of Zermatt where there are no cars, just small electric vehicles. Could it be that there is a connection between a place being car-free and therefore having a more carefree approach to life?

History was made when the first brave mountaineers climbed the Matterhorn. We heard about it in the song “1865” sung to us by Dan Daniell, our host, chef, and folk singer, after a gourmet dinner at Chez Heini’s. Dan wrote this song together with Frida, a member of the famous band called ABBA.

This song talks about how today is a day of joy. Boy did we ever have lots and lots of joyful moments on the 2022 Matterhorn Magic Adventure! Being able to share the magic of the Matterhorn with a group of like-minded horse lovers was a special treat and it would not have been possible without the generosity of local Parelli students who allowed us to embark on this adventure aboard their personal horses.

In Switzerland, dude ranches aren’t really a thing, and owning a horse is a big deal. Therefore, letting a complete stranger ride their most prized possession up & down mountains and take it for a swim in a high alpine lake, now that is unheard of!

Some days, helicopters came in to land at the heliport, a mere 150ft above us our horses’ heads. We crossed narrow bridges, rode on narrow trails, across steep meadows and climbed over boulders.

Hikers on the trails from all over the world were excited to see us.

The train went by us, on the left, down below, on the right and even up above our heads. Construction sites, gondolas, e-bikes, cows, you name it – these horses did it all and never skipped a beat.

A big thank you goes out to the amazing participants as well. A group of strangers became a group of adventurers who had each other’s back and looked out for each other. The thousands and thousands of pictures and videos will re-tell the stories forever!

Even though we are still living off of this year’s Matterhorn Magic Memories, the 2023 edition is already in the planning stage!
